Cannes Lions 2019- Day #3

Today I got to the festival around 10:30 AM and went straight to Palais II to hear Jenna Lyons speak. In collaboration with Warner Media, Jenna explained her career path and how her transition out of J Crew influences her new company and TV show. She was so genuine and transparent in her session, I could have listened to her speak for the rest of the day. After Jenna, I stayed for “Dark Data: Creative Insights Amazon Doesn’t Want You To See.” I honestly ended up in this session accidentally, as I read my schedule wrong, but it was still extremely interesting and enlightens and I learned a lot about how companies are studying consumers’ buyer behavior online today. Next up was “Junktion: The Dynamic Intersection of Advertising & Entertainment” with FALKON and Kenya Barris. This session was more of a casual conversation between friends but they still covered some important topics like FALKON’s campaign about the banned NBA shoes and why Kenya decided to move networks in the past few...

Cannes Lions 2019- Day #2

Today I had to get up early to meet a group at the Martinez Hotel at 8:30 AM for a breakfast with the COO of PHD, Stacy DeRiso. The breakfast was a nice change of ritual, opposed to my usual pan ah chocolat, and the conversation was so inspiring and uplifting. Mrs. DeRiso even invited me to come by their office in New York some time, once we both get back to the city. After breakfast, our group of six headed over to the Havas Cafe to catch the end of the larger breakfast with Havas Health. The CEO of Havas Health approached our group and explained to us what exactly their company does and how she ended up in her current role, pretty much on accident. While I would have liked to stay longer, I was excited to go to the Coca Cola session, “It’s the Real Thing.” I walked from the Havas Cafe and waited in line outside the Audi A Theater, only to be told that the space was over capacity. Since I couldn’t go to that session, I decided to kill time by looking through the Young Lions School an...

On Monday morning, I woke up at 7:00 AM to get ready for the festival. I ate a croissant at the cafe by the train station and then took the train to the festival with a group of friends. Whenwe first arrived, I went straight to pick up my badge and welcome bag since I was out of town on Sunday when everyone else did that. For the first hour or so, we just walked around to try and figure out where everything is located. I spent a while in the first floor of the Palais I, reading about different entries in my project category, Outdoor Lions, and I had the opportunity to make an account online so that I can view the entries in their entirety later on. After that, I Webb to the Terrace Stage to wait on the 11:15 AM event that I wanted to attend. I got there early enough to get a front row seat. This session was with Wyclef Jean, Moira Gilchrist, and Bonin Bough, titled “Facts, Fads, and a Fugee- Creating a Smoke Free Future.” They discussed the tobacco industry’s desire to eradicate cig...
